From the precious colors of the amazing Sossusvlei Dunes, in the Namib Desert, to the wonderful Atlantic Coast, full of flamingos and sea lions, every day we will be enjoying countless opportunities to get fabulous photographs.
But also, we will be trying to photograph the Himba and Herero tribes, in Damaraland, in contrast with the city life of Windhoek and other towns we’ll pass in our route, so we are talking about a tour full of contrasts, which will be one of our focus.
We will spend all day, and sometimes even part of the night, trying to search for the best possible images in this amazing locations. Without any doubt, the photo opportunities in this tour are really gorgeous, being interesting for lovers of several styles of photography; from the landscape and wildlife lovers, to the night photography ones, but also for those into social and portrait photography.
Each day, we will wake up early for sunrise shooting, trying to capture the most beautiful locations under the best light conditions. At the same time, every evening we’ll be ready to capture the sunset light in some of those marvelous locations. This way, we’ll make sure to have as many opportunities as possible to capture the best locations under the best light conditions. Do you imagine the incredible contrasts we will be able to photograph in Sossusvlei dunes at sunset? Or the magical images we will be capturing as we observe the wildlife in Etosha National Park with the last lights of the day? These and many more moments will be part of this incredible Namibia Photo Tour.
By other hand, in order to guarantee the best possible stay, and to make sure we will make the most of the few sleep time we will have, we have done a great selection of accommodations, so we will be sure that, once we go to our rooms to rest a little bit, we will enjoy the best amenities, and will be staying in some of the most confortable places. Sometimes, we will be even staying in lodges in the middle of the action area, in the dessert or inside the locations where we’ll get to capture the most amazing wildlife.

Our photographers Juanra Noriega and Sergio Lanza will be taking you to some of the most fantastic locations to get the best images, as always with the organization of one of the largest travel companies in Spain, ‘B the travel brand’ – ‘Barceló Viajes.’
The group will be meeting at Windhoek airport in the beginning of this Naminia Photo Tour.
Windhoek is the capital of Namibia. Its name may come from the afrikáans Wind-Hoek (‘wind corner’) or from the Winterhoek Mountains. Its population, of around 300,000 inhabitants (12% of Namibia population), comes from German antecessors (almost 10%), Ovambo, Herero, Nama, Afrikáners, mongrel (basters and coloureds), Asians and the other native ethnics. It’s the main point of life in Namibia, from the political and economical point of view.
We will check in at our hotel and have a well deserved rest after our flights, to prepare for the rest of the trip.
Hotel: Discovery Guesthouse
On the second day, we will leave Windhoek early in the morning, driving to the Namib Desert, where we’ll spend the following three days. Once in the area, we’ll check in at our hotel, and then we’ll head to Sossusvlei dunes, where we will have our first session under the last lights of the day.
We’ll spend here two more full days, focusing in the amazing dunes, with their incredible shapes and colors, always searching for the best composition, contrasts, combinations… Specially, we will spend time photographing the dead trees in the area, which will bring us spectacular photo opportunities.
The Namib Desert is considered the oldest one on Earth. The Namib-Naukluft National Park, containing this desert, has an area of around fifty thousand km2, and it’s considered the largest one in Africa, and the fourth one all around the world. The best-known area of the desert is recognized for its high sand dunes, as well as for its intense orange tones, as a consequence oh the high percentage of iron in its sand, with the consequent oxidation process.
This area, known as Sossusvlei, is one of the most beautiful ones in Namibia, home of some of the highest dunes all around the world, some of them higher than 200 meters. The highest one is called ‘Big Daddy’, with 380 meters high.
Observing the amazing Sossusvlei dunes, we will be amazed by the vegetation we can find in this extreme location. This vegetation survives because of the humidity of the morning mists, which comes to the desert from the Atlantic Ocean, as well as because of the subterranean rivers that periodically collapse the areas between the dunes, originating temporary ponds known as ‘vleis’. However, usually several years pass between the creation of these ponds and, when they are totally dry, we are able to see the typical dried divided grounds, with their amazing white tones due to the salt concentration, in great contrast with the orange dunes.
In this area, we will be also able to see some wildlife, specially small species, but also including others as rodents, jackals, and even antelopes and gazelles. The area is also visited by some birds, specially when there are ponds between the dunes.
It’s very important to remark that we will spend our accommodation for the three nights in the area will be inside the park, so we won’t have to worry about the opening and closing times of the park. That way, we will be able to do sunrise and sunset sessions every of the days of our stay in Sossusvle, and will manage to visit the best locations regardless of the time.
Hotel: Sossus Dune Lodge
We will head to Walvis Bay early in the morning of March the 21st, around 400km from our location (6 hours drive). During this trip, we will do several stops to photograph the area around us, for example in a former gas station in the middle of the desert.
Our destination, Swakopmund, will be on the west, by the Atlantic Ocean, near Walvis Bay. We will leave our luggage in our hotel, and then will try to search and photograph the pink flamingos at sunset.
During the following day, we will spend the day in the famous Sandwich Harbor dunes, as well as in Walvis Bay. Our way will drive us by the dunes and the Atlantic Ocean, and will bring us uncountable stops to photograph the amazing landscape on this impressive area, between the desert and the ocean.
We will also make a stop by ‘Bird Rock’, a small island home to around 200,000 birds. After photographing this location, we will be visiting the pond by Walvis Bay, declared as an important International Area, due to the fact that it is special area of feeding and breeding for thousands of different species of birds.
The route to Sandwich Harbor is also home to many wildlife species, as gazelles, jackals or brown hyenas. Sometimes, the road will be covered by sand, so this will be an amazing adventure that will offer us constant opportunities to photograph and impressive scenery.
Hotel: The Delight Swakopmund
We will drive from Swakopmund to our new destination, Damaraland, around 400 km. Approaching Damaraland, we will be able to spot and photograph wildlife such as zebras or giraffes, but also will have spectacular views to capture, from the amazing semi desert sceneries around us.
On the following day, apart from continuing photographing the fantastic landscape and wildlife of the area, we will try to search for the Herero and Himba local Tribes. These people, a semi nomadic and shepherd tribe, are so proud of their culture and way of life. Photographing them will be another of the higlights of this Photo Tour.
Hotel: Ugab Terrace Lodge
After capturing our last Damaraland sunrise, we will head to Etosha National Park, one of the largest ones on Earth, where we will spend the following two days.
Etosha National Park is the largest wildlife sanctuary in Namibia. During our visit, we will be able to capture the different landscapes of this gorgeous park. If lucky, we will be able to see and photograph rhinos, elephants, and even giraffes and lions, always in their natural habitat. There are around 300 lions, 3,000 giraffes and 2,000 elephants in Etosha, but also a huge amount of zebras, buffalos, kudus, oryx… and even we could be able to see leopards.
The park is also home to many species as the black and white rhino, the black impala, the tssessebe and the oryx.
In the middle of Etosha National Park, we will also visit the Pan, a former lake, now dry, or around 5,000 square meters.
Without any doubt, Etosha will bring us some of the best photo opportunities during our Namibia Photo Tour.
Again, we’d like to remark the accommodation we will have for our stay in Etosha, the Okaukuojo Camp, which is located inside Etosha National Park, and apart from that, there is a waterhole just next to the hotel, where we will probably be able to see and photograph wildlife as the black rhino, giraffes, zebras or elephants. Just imagine the incredible chance we will have, being able to visit this spot anytime day or night, to presence how wildlife arrives to drink or refresh in the special place… photo opportunities from the viewing area, less than 50 meters from the waterhole will be fabulous.
Hotel: Okaukuojo Camp
We will wake up early to take the last pictures in Etosha National Park, and then will drive back to Windhoek, around 500km to the South, stopping several times in our way for photographing the surroundings.
Once in Windhoek, we’ll go to our hotel to rest a little bit and prepare for our flight back home.
Hotel: Discovery Guesthouse
Flight back to our destination. End of the trip.
